Why go to Pattaya?
BASED in south-central Thailand by the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya is a colourful
resort and small city (400,000) that is an easy 2hr drive south of Bangkok.
There are two principal beaches here, Pattaya Beach and Jomtiem but linking
these and beyond is the prettiest series of smaller, sheltered beaches.
The luxurious, executive-class Westbury Suites are located close to these,
against the backdrop Wat Thau Yai park, on the quiet and scenic outskirts
of the city. It's the most beautiful area of this southern resort, occupying
a green belt between the town and Jomtiem's fine beach.
Pattaya is a bustling town with a host of services and activities to offer
other than the warm gulf waters and endless beaches. Golf, sports, shopping,
dining out, designer markets by night, nightclubbing are daily activities.
For the adventurous, touring the islands and inland national parks and historic
sights are easily arranged options.
It is easy to reach this prospering small city from Bangkok's international
airport and a coach as well as limousine service will whisk you to Pattaya
within a couple of hours. A smaller airport is located 45 minutes away and
has frequent charters to islands such as Phuket and Koh Samui.
Gulf of Thailand Boats leave Pattaya every morning for day trips to one
of the coral islands, or you can take a short ride down the coast to Ban
Pha and hop on the ferry to Koh Samet.
Sattahip and Rayong resorts are within easy reach down the gulf coast. In
the opposite direction is the towns of Sri Racha, with Ang Sila and Bang
Saen a little further. Most hotels will be able to arrange day trips.
Sporting life
There is a waterpark near Pattaya, and fun activities available in Pattya
include go-karting and paintballing. Jomtiem Beach is the country's windsurfing
paradise and its white, sandy beaches are lined with palm trees. Many larger
hotels have tennis courts and fitness centres. You could try a spot of sea
fishing, or spend a day at a fishing park. Scuba diving offers a chance
to visit the fish at home, and tuition by qualified instructors is available
if required. Shooting, bowling, snooker, darts , squash, badminton, not
to mention bungee jumping are some of the other sports available.
Dining out
dining in Restaurants are of international class in Pattaya but you can
of course eat for the proverbial song at the stalls on the streets and by
the beach side. Thailand's cuisine is regarded by many people as one of
the best in the world. If variety be the spice of life, you can literally
have a different meal every day of the year. Almost all Thai food is cooked
with fresh ingredients, including vegetables, poultry, pork, fish and some
beef. Lime juice, lemon grass and fresh coriander give the food its characteristic
tang, while liberal helpings of fresh chillies are used to add some fire
to many dishes. Other common seasonings include black pepper, ginger, tamarind,
and coconut milk which is often added to curries. However you can dine at
terrific French, Belgian, Indian, Chinese - you name the country - restaurants
as easily.
Home-delivery
Home-delivery of exquisite foods is available 24hrs a day in Pattaya. Although
the apartments at Westbury Suites are fully equipped with a kitchen, you
might not care to cook while on holiday. The stylish dining area of your
suite overlooks the Gulf of Thailand and is an inviting place to either
dine at home on European or Thai food brought to your door, or to entertain.
The balconies and terraces rimming the apartments on either side make eating
al fresco a pleasure, day and night.
